You're either breaking even or making a profit. As long as you are doing that, you are able to set whatever price you want. The added advantage of that is that you can also produce exceptional sales, give out discounts, as much as you desire. That is not the case with affiliate marketing as you're promoting other peoples' products. So they set the purchase price and you usually can not create your own discounts or prices. It's up to the individual selling. You're just talking clients.

Sometimes when you're part of affiliate marketing programs, they also place other limitations on where you can promote, how it is possible to promote their products, etc.. Together with e-commerce you have complete freedom. While in online affiliate marketing, there may be some limitations you'll need to take care of.
